Stochastic Oscillator
What is Stochastic Oscillator?
The Stochastic Oscillator is a technical indicator used to measure momentum and identify overbought or oversold conditions in price movements. It is especially popular among traders for generating entry and exit signals.
Settings (9, 3, 5):
- K Period (9): The number of past candles used to calculate the Stochastic movement.
- D Period (3): A moving average of the %K line, providing a smoothed value.
- Slowing (5): Reduces market noise by smoothing the indicator further.
Key Functions of Stochastic (9, 3, 5):
1. Detecting Overbought and Oversold Levels
- Overbought (Above 80): Indicates that prices may have risen too high and are likely to reverse downward.
- Oversold (Below 20): Indicates that prices may have dropped too low and are likely to reverse upward.
2. Divergence (Directional Discrepancies)
- Bullish Divergence: Price forms a lower low, but the Stochastic makes a higher low, signaling potential upward movement.
- Bearish Divergence: Price forms a higher high, but the Stochastic makes a lower high, signaling potential downward movement.
3. Entry and Exit Signals
- Buy Signal: %K (fast line) crosses above %D (slow line) in the oversold zone (<20).
- Sell Signal: %K crosses below %D in the overbought zone (>80).
